In 2017, Sue Heddle founded Hockey Cares as a way to bring Indigenous youth and Non-Indigenous youth together. Through hockey as a shared passion, participating youth learn about each other as individual people, their cultures, realities of life and get a chance to listen to one another’s personal stories.
2020 marks the fourth time Hockey Cares will enable this life changing opportunity for young people and we want to make sure that everyone who may be interested gets a chance to learn more about how they can participate, volunteer or donate to this amazing initiative.
Hockey Cares – A Project Of True North Aid
If you aren’t familiar with Hockey Cares, here’s what you need to know as we embark on another exciting year.
1. On February 13, 2020 you can attend a Parent Info Night to learn more about how your 15U (born 2006) child can take part in this year’s exchange.
2. Even if you don’t have a child that fits the age criteria, you can still get involved! In order to make this year’s exchange a success, we’ll need volunteers and sponsors to help bring everything together. Feel free to either make a donation or email us at hockeycares@truenorthaid.ca to find out more about sponsorship or volunteer opportunities.
3. This truly is a life changing experience for all involved. To learn more about what to expect, watch this video.
Help Make A Difference
We believe that making connections with youth can play a big part of the process of reconciliation. Your participation and donations can help bring about real reconciliation between Canada’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. We are so proud of this project and would love to have your support.
